The UP Padyak Project is an advocacy project that responds to the threat of global warming and the environmental crisis. Started by members and alumni of the UP Mountaineers, the project advocates bicycling as means of transportation beginning in the UP Diliman Campus, and hope to spread the practice to other communities in the country. Bicycling as a means of transportation lessens our dependence on fossil fuel-driven vehicles and improves health and fitness. At the UP Diliman campus, the project makes available to students bicycles, training clinics, access to bicycle racks and cable locks. Padyak bikes are reconditioned single-speed easy-rider bikes with step-through frames intended not for speed but for safety, comfort, visibility and function. Utility baskets will be mounted on the handlebars where students can place their belongings. Specially-designed Padyak decorative disks carrying visual messages about energy conservation and saving the environment are mounted on the wheels for visibility. Various UP alumni artists offered their talent in making these designs. INTERESTED BIKERS PLEASE LOG ON TO www.padyak.org FOR MORE INFO
